Space (In)Between is a participatory, live cinema performance that explores the urban landscape as an interconnected realization of liminal issues and subjective experiences that transpire amidst tension between visible/invisible, local/global and space/place. Remixing participant submitted cell-phone images with location based sound and video, artists Amir Husak and Karl Mendonca propose a portrait of place as a cybernetic feedback loop where audio and video signals are continuously inter-transposed to construct a narrative in flux.
Prior to the performance,
flyers with a call for participation and instructions on how to submit images are distributed in the geographic neighborhood. The artists also make site-specific audio and video field recordings of locations around the performance venue and festival. During the live performance, submitted images will be downloaded off a server and added to the mix. Variations in the audio, video or participant submitted images affect in the resulting ÒmixÓ spanning minimal abstractions to reactive compositions.
